Quantity quantiles linear regression

چکیده
We show that the definition of the θth sample quantile as the solution to a minimization problem introduced by Koenker and Basset [1978] can be easily extended to obtain an analogous definition for the θth sample quantity quantile instead of the usual one. By means of this definition we introduce a linear regression model for quantity quantiles and analyze some properties of the residuals. In section 4 we show a brief application of the methodology proposed.

Multivariate Quantiles and Multiple-output Regression Quantiles: from L1 Optimization to Halfspace Depth
A new multivariate concept of quantile, based on a directional version of Koenker and Bassett’s traditional regression quantiles, is introduced for multivariate location and multiple-output regression problems. In their empirical version, those quantiles can be computed efficiently via linear programming techniques. Consistency, Bahadur representation and asymptotic normality results are establ...
متن کاملEXTREMAL QUANTILE REGRESSION 3 quantile regression
Quantile regression is an important tool for estimation of conditional quantiles of a response Y given a vector of covariates X. It can be used to measure the effect of covariates not only in the center of a distribution, but also in the upper and lower tails. This paper develops a theory of quantile regression in the tails. Specifically , it obtains the large sample properties of extremal (ext...
متن کاملRobust Regression Quantiles with Censored Data
In this paper we propose a method to robustly estimate linear regression quantiles with censored data. We adjust the estimator recently developed by Portnoy by replacing the Koenker-Bassett regression quantiles with the regression depth quantiles. The resulting optimization problem is solved iteratively over a set of grid points. We show on some examples that, contrary to the Koenker-Bassett ap...
متن کاملWhy Is Linear Quantile Regression Empirically Successful: A Possible Explanation
Many quantities describing the physical world are related to each other. As a result, often, when we know the values of certain quantities x1, . . . , xn, we can reasonably well predict the value of some other quantity y. In many application, in addition to the resulting estimate for y, it is also desirable to predict how accurate is this approximate estimate, i.e., what is the probability dist...
متن کاملConstructing a Confidence Interval for Quantiles of Normal Distribution, one and Two Population
In this paper, in order to establish a confidence interval (general and shortest) for quantiles of normal distribution in the case of one population, we present a pivotal quantity that has non-central t distribution. In the case of two independent normal populations, we construct a confidence interval for the difference quantiles based on the generalized pivotal quantity and introduce ...
